On Being Blue - A Philosophical Inquiry
Aldeburgh Beach Lookout
31 Crag Path
Suffolk IP15 5BS
"It is a remarkable place, offering a retreat for artists but also very much part of Aldeburgh's cultural significance"
Isolated on the pebbled beach of this Suffolk seaside town, Aldeburgh Beach Lookout welcomes artists to create new works in a unique and inspiring location, culminating in an art exhibition at the end of the residency.
British Balinese artist Sinta Tantra will be creating a series of abstract paintings inspired by William Gass’ book On Being Blue - A Philosophical Inquiry. Part essay, part list making and part narrative, the book explores the perception of the colour blue as well as its erotic, symbolic, and emotional associations.
Known for her use of colour, Tantra’s paintings and immersive public art installations play on pop and formalism; the slippage between pictorial and physical space, of turning something 'inside out' and how we as bodies become submerged in surface and structure.
Since it's creation the Aldeburgh Beach Lookout has hosted some of the world's most eminent artists including Peter Black RA, Eileen Cooper RA, Ryan Gander, Anthony Green RA.
